We are proud to have been awarded our fourth Discover Primary Science and Maths Plaque of STEM.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The programme is run by Science Foundation Ireland and the European Space Agency. It aims to increase interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) among students, teachers and members of the public.
This past year children planned, experimented and recorded investigations at home. These recordings were then shared with their classmates via Teams. We also held a live STEM Showcase event in our classes and parents and members of our school community joined us over Zoom.
Feedback from Science Foundation Ireland on our logbook of evidence:
"Congratulations to Two Mile School for the amazing work in STEM. You certainly deserve the SFI Plaque Award for STEM. Your submission shows clearly the children engaging in a wide range of exciting activities.
The way you all used technology to demonstrate and share your science work at school and at home is excellent and shows the children's confidence in producing videos, photographs and power points.
The bridges built by children during Engineers Week show a real understanding of the structures and I would guess there are a few budding engineers in the school.
The study of 'objects around the house' and the recording by the children themselves of the types and description of materials discovered is an ideal way to develop scientific skills.
Every step completed deserves special mention, skittles, maths eyes, mars rover, water filtration and fungal growth. What a hive of teaching and learning in a small school community! Well done to everyone!"
We look forward to continuing to engage with this very worthwhile programme this year, starting with celebrating Science Week next week. A huge thank you to everyone for supporting the work of the DPSM Programme.
Comhghairdeas mór do gach duine ar an sár obair a rinneadh!
