A Community National School is just as it says. Founded in local communities, these schools are child-centred, inclusive, multi-belief, State supported schools which strive to provide a high-quality primary education for every child in line with the Primary School Curriculum and guidelines laid down by the Department of Education and Skills.
What are Community National Schools?
Goodness Me, Goodness You!
Goodness Me, Goodness You! (GMGY) is a multi-belief and values curriculum that has been developed for Community National Schools in collaboration with children, parents and teachers of the schools, the local Education and Training Boards, the Education and Training Board of Ireland, the Department of Education and Skills and assisted by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment.GMGY contributes to the holistic development of the child and as such aims to enable every child to realise their potential as a unique individual.
The GMGY curriculum uses strands, elements and learning outcomes. In GMGY, strands represent the main areas of learning described by the curriculum, while elements describe the essential learning within each strand. The strands in GMGY are: “We are a CNS”, “My Stories”, “Thinking Time”, “Religions and Beliefs”.
